Imalirijiit (“Those who study water”) is a community-based environmental monitoring program started in 2016, from a collaboration between the community of Kangiqsualujjuaq and a team of academic researchers. The goal is to follow the water quality in the George River and train the youth in environmental stewardship. Nunami Sukuijainiq (“Science on the land”) is a science camp program that stemmed from Imalirijiit as a meeting and sharing platform for Nunavik youth, community members and researchers. This program aims to learn from each other while working together on common research interests that are relevant to the community.
