The Centre expects its regular members to contribute significantly to its mission of training highly qualified personnel in northern research and scientific dissemination. Members participate in the Centre's activities, particularly the annual colloquium and meetings and consultations of the Assembly of Researchers (see the Centre's Governance Reference Framework). They also contribute to the Centre's leadership and influence in northern research at provincial, national, and international levels. Associate members and collaborators must also contribute to the Centre's mission. To maintain their membership status, they must meet the above-mentioned criteria for the various membership categories.
The Centre expects its members to continue to honor the conditions attached to the status they acquired on admission, and to respond to the requests of the Direction and Coordination.
The Centre expects its members to respect its Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Policy and Code of Conduct when using its research facilities and attending its events. This ensures that the Centre's study, research and work environments are healthy and inclusive, enabling its members to flourish.
All Centre members must acknowledge their affiliation with the Centre in all publications resulting from research carried out at the Centre in connection with its scientific programme. This includes articles, books, reports, dissertations, theses and scientific communications, as well as conference presentations and posters. Additionally, the Centre's contribution to their research, whether logistical, financial or in terms of human resources, must be acknowledged in the acknowledgements section of their publications.

The Centre's regular and associate members must respond promptly to requests from the Centre regarding their annual research activities that contribute to its scientific mission. This enables the Centre to compile a database of its members' scientific activities for statistical purposes, to compile the Centre's activity reports and to respond to accountability requests from the host institution, partner institutions and research funding agencies.
In accordance with Université Laval's Politique de reconnaissance des centres de recherche et de création, a periodic evaluation of the Centre is carried out every five years, in which all regular members of the host institution's Centre must participate. This is also an opportunity for the Centre to assess recent contributions from its regular members at the host institution. If their contributions are deemed insufficient, their status may be changed to that of an associate member of the host institution, according to the above-described process.

As the Centre is part of a strategic cluster governed by the FRQ-NT rules, the cluster co-investigators, student researchers and postdoctoral fellows agree to abide by the FRQ-NT open access policy for their publications (Politique de diffusion en libre accès, Fonds de la Recherche du Québec, FRQ, gouv.qc.ca).
The FRQ grant for CEN's mature strategic cluster is now available: https://doi.org/10.69777/278716.
Every three years, in line with the renewal of the strategic cluster grant and the FRQ-NT mid-term evaluation report, the Centre's Scientific Committee carries out a periodic assessment of the recent contributions of Regroupement co-investigators and members in general. If these contributions are deemed insufficient, a regular member's status may be changed to that of associate member, thereby forfeiting their privileges as a co-investigator of the Regroupement. The regular member will first be consulted by the Centre's management to ascertain why they are not meeting the Centre's expectations, before receiving a letter of notice at least six months before the change in status takes effect.
