Colloque Savoirs et Territoire Manicouagan

The Chaire de recherche du Canada en biologie intégrative de la flore nordique de l’UQAR, led by Guillaume de Lafontaine (regular member of the CEN), was in the spotlight at the first Colloque Savoirs & Territoire Manicouagan, organized by the Manicouagan Biosphere Region (RBMU) on November 4 and 5, 2025, at the Centre d'expérimentation et de développement en forêt boréale (CEDFOB) at Cégep de Baie-Comeau.

Ariane Langlois and Jeanne Léger took part in the panel discussion La Manic, un laboratoire vivant, alongside Line Rochefort (ULaval, restoration of degraded sites and regular member of the CEN), Lina Sylvain (UQAR, education sciences) and Alexandre Larouche (ULaval, artificial intelligence).

Ariane and Jeanne presented their work on the ecology of the Uapishka Mountains, entitled Origin and Dynamics of Summit Heathlands in the Boreal Forest, and contributed to a lively discussion on the challenges, opportunities, and networks related to research in the region, particularly on the North Shore.

This event highlighted the diversity of research conducted in the region and provided a unique opportunity for exchange between scientists, students, regional partners, members of the Innu communities, and citizens.

5th annual meeting of the International Cold Forest Research Laboratory

At the 5th meeting of the International Cold Forest Research Laboratory, held in the Innu community of Pessamit from October 27 to 31, students Alice Desaulniers, Jeanne Léger, Todor Slavchev Minchev, Cassandra Rioux-Couture, and Ariane Langlois, now a research professional, presented their work on paleoecology, ecology, and the evolution of northern ecosystems.

The week, punctuated by oral presentations, themed booths, meetings with the community and Innu elders, and field trips, helped strengthen ties and foster enriching collaborations.
