For three decades, CEN research teams have been conducting unique research on Bylot Island, tracking, year after year, the complex dynamics of Arctic ecosystems and their responses to climate change.

A report airing on Saturday, March 21, on La semaine verte highlights this work by following Pierre Legagneux (ULaval), Joël Bêty (UQAR), Dominique Fauteux (Canadian Museum of Nature), and Dominique Berteaux (UQAR), along with their teams, from the banks of the St. Lawrence River to Bylot Island. We invite you to watch it to learn more about the snow goose, lemmings, Arctic fox, and Canada geese—key species for monitoring wildlife in the Arctic.

Located in Nunavut, off the northern tip of Baffin Island, Bylot Island lies across from the community of Mittimaltalik (Pond Inlet). The teams rely on the research station on Bylot Island, one of the 10 stations in CEN’s Qaujisarvik network, which provides safe access to northern research in remote areas.

This work builds on the scientific legacy of Gilles Gauthier, professor emeritus, whose commitment and vision played a decisive role in the development and sustainability of research on Bylot Island.

The digital story “La belle envolée” also highlights this research. Click here to read the story on the Radio-Canada website.
