On February 4 and 5, 2026, during Polar Knowledge Canada's Science Open House, several CEN members visited the Canadian High Arctic Research Station in Cambridge Bay (Ikaluktutiak), Nunavut; 69°06' N; 105°07' W.
A look back at the event by Camille and Karima
Student members Karima Hadria Gondry (INRS-ETE) and Camille Brice (INRS-ETE), along with their colleagues Dylan Beard (University of Alberta) and Natalie Nykamp (Wilfrid Laurier University), presented the Arctic Resilience and Contamination Collective research group, led by professors Anne Crémazy (INRS-ETE), Tamzin Blewett (University of Alberta), and Erin Leonard (Wilfrid Laurier University). It was an opportunity to meet the polar research community from different fields of research and from all regions of Canada and to exchange with their peers and members of the community.
During the event, research teams set up interactive information booths for elementary and high school students to present their research projects, field and laboratory instruments, study results, and more, with the goal of making science interesting and accessible to everyone.
The Science Open House is the first science sharing and outreach event of its kind organized by Polar Knowledge Canada at Cambridge Bay. At the close of the event, all participants agreed that it was a success, and we hope it will become an annual event!
An event that brings people together
Several other CEN members were present at the event to present their work and discuss it with the community.
