The 45th CEN Annual Conference was held on 13 and 14 February 2025 at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.

Half-day workshop

For the second year running, the CEN and its student committee are organising a half-day of training, sponsored by the Institut nordique du Québec and SiriusMedX.

The 2025 CEN Annual Conference in a Nutshell

The winter storm did not dampen the spirits of the 45th CEN Annual Conference. It was a great event, thanks to everyone's participation and commitment!

This year's highlights:

• Around 120 people joined the event between Thursday 13 and Friday 14 February 2025.
• Jérôme Comte, professor and regular member of the CEN, presented the work he is doing in his laboratory at the INRS on the microbiome as a sentinel of aquatic ecosystems in a changing North.
• Jedidat Matoush, Assistant Coordinator of the Cree Nation Research Institute (CNRI), presented her PhD work at the Department of Political Science at Concordia University in Montreal, and discussed data governance, the protection of Eeyou knowledge, and the definition of research protocols and evaluation processes for research in the Eeyou Istchee through the CNRI.
• Warwick Vincent, Full Professor at Ulaval and a regular member of CEN, spoke about his rich career and innovative research on microbial ecology and ecosystem responses to environmental change.
• Daniel Fortier, professor at UdeM and regular member of CEN, presented the orientations of the Northern Gradient research axis of the CEN scientific programme.
• 10 students presented their work in the form of a traditional oral presentation
• 3 students presented their work in the form of a reinvented presentation
• 10 students presented their work in the form of an express speech
• 63 student scientific posters were visited

Thank you and congratulations to all the guest speakers, students, postdocs and research professionals.

The evening of 13 February took place at the artisan pub Le Gambrinus, near the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. It was an opportunity to network over a good meal and a drink, hosted by the CEN Student Committee!
