I study aquatic ecosystems, their interactions with natural and anthropogenic stressors, and their records of long-term environmental change, with a particular focus on ecosystems in the polar regions. A number of different indicators are used in my research including diatoms, photosynthetic pigments and geochemistry. These approaches are used to understand the effects in aquatic ecosystems of processes such as climate change, pollution, and eutrophication.
