This fascinating system still hides numerous mysteries.
Much work remains to be done in order to understand both the physical, chemical and biological processes
related to the production and consumption of greenhouse gaz, and their exchanges between water and atmosphere.
This knowledge is necessary not only in order to quantify current greenhouse gaz emissions, but also in order to
estimate how these emissions will change over time in response to climate changes (rain and warmer temperatures).
Further, this will allow modellers to include this potentially important biological component in global
climate-prediction models.
