Research project : The Calypso bulbosa (L.) Oakes on Anticosti Island : the impact of white-tailed deer populations on a rare plant. This research project aimed to characterize the best habitats for the growth of this orchid and to map the colonies in order to evaluate the geographic distribution of this plant on the island. We also evaluated the degree of fragility of the colonies. This last objective took in consideration the particular context of the island which is characterized by a very high density of white-tailed deer and a decreasing area occupied by old fir stands, a habitat closely associated to this orchid. Academic training and work experience : Ève-Marie Morissette has a Technical degree in Wildlife Management (Cégep de St-Félicien, 2000). She also has a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a specialization in Wildlife Management obtained at the Université du Québec à Rimouski in 2003. She has had the opportunity to work as an aquatic wildlife technician during the summers of 2000 and 2001 in Controlled harvesting zones (ZEC). She took part in a survey on Bicknell's Thrush populations with the Canadian Wildlife Service in 2002. She was hired as a crew leader for two projects, one concerning the impact of white-tailed deer on vegetation and the other, a bird survey for the Michigan State University in 2003. She has also worked as a research assistant within the scope of a study on the winter movements and behaviour of monitored porcupines for the Université du Québec à Rimouski in 2004. Ève-Marie has received a scholarship from the NSERC and a supplement from the Fondation for Orchid Research and Conservation. She also received a scholarship from the Canadian National (CN). Ève-Marie now works as a biologist in Michigan. Research interests : Population dynamics, integrated forest resources management, wildlife management and forest ecology. |
