Research project: Fine-scale analysis of habitat use and foraging behaviour of white-tailed deer does on Anticosti Island. We analyse summer habitat use of white-tailed deer does at different spatial and temporal scales with the use of GPS collars. We are interested in the influence of the temporal and spatial distribution of clear-cuts and residual forests as well as forage availability on the foraging behaviour of females. The key objective of this study is to integrate plant-vertebrate herbivores relationships in an integrated forest-wildlife management perspective.

Academic training and work experience : Ariane Massé holds a B. Sc. degree in biology from Université Laval (1998-2001). She worked at the Centre d'études nordiques on a long term project on the population dynamics and the ecology of Greater Snow Goose. She also worked on a project on integrated management of peatlands in eastern Canada. She owns scholarships for graduate studies from the FQRNT and NSERC. Ariane has completed her Ph.D. degree and now works as a biologist for the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la faune du Québec.

Research interests: Wildlife conservation and management, plant-vertebrate herbivores relationships, population dynamics, behavioural ecology.
